HOME PORTFOLIO BACKGROUND

Richard Whitehill, orthopedic surgeon at the University of Virginia, designs and produces unique welded steel sculptures for both indoors and outdoors. They have been exhibited at local art shows and are on display in public places and private homes in Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, Florida, Missouri, Maine, Texas, Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, New Jersey, Maryland, Louisiana, New Mexico, Washington and California.

His work ranges from the whimsical to the monumental: sports figures, animals, abstract pieces, pendulums, company logos, and many other subjects. Whether colorfully painted, powder coated, clear-coated natural steel, or stainless steel, each work is highly original. Pictured: "Orthopedic tree" (international symbol of orthopedics).

Dr. Whitehill makes sculptures on commission, working closely with each customer. A project takes about one to three months to complete. After an initial deposit, the balance of payment is due when the sculpture is finished.

Red Barn Studio sculptures have been featured in the Charlottesville Daily Progress, the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the C-Ville Weekly, and the Hook, among other publications.
